The Java Runtime Environment (JRE) provides the libraries, the Java Virtual Machine, and other components to run applets and applications written in the Java programming language. In addition, two key deployment technologies are part of the JRE: Java Plug-in, which enables applets to run in popular browsers; and Java Web Start, which deploys standalone applications over a network. This is the official Java Download from Sun Microsystems.

Version 6 Update 15 adds one new root certificate and removed 3 root certificates from Entrust and three new root certificates from Keynectis.

Actual Drawing 7.4

Actual Drawing is a visual publishing tool that helps you make Web pages without you having to know HTML, allowing you to drag and drop page content. Resolution-independent vector layers can be resized without loss of quality. The program has easy-to-use tools for preparing custom rollover buttons; it creates necessary images and JavaScript. In addition, Actual Drawing has features for publishing your site, creating forms, and making Web albums. You can check broken links and submit your pages to search engines. Active Desktop Calendar 7.82

Need to keep up to date? Try the unobtrusive but feature-rich Active Desktop Calendar. Launching at start-up, it displays an attractive three-month calendar view on, yes, your desktop. By double-clicking a day or the sidebar, you can quickly access tasks and see details of upcoming events. You also can display Outlook information and download and connect to other people's calendars via a LAN to see changes in their schedules. The program has a simple contact manager as well.

Considering all the cool stuff it does, Active Desktop Calendar doesn't consume much memory. We did notice a few shortcomings in this generally excellent program. For example, though the window for adding a new note contains a subject line and a body field, only the subject-line text appears on the calendar and in the sidebar. The monthly calendar view looks pretty clunky, too. On the bright side, you can switch among several desktop images and set the program as the default screensaver, which will display several world clocks.

Active Desktop Calendar also exports and imports iCal calendar files and can read your Google Calendar on the hour (though not, apparently, at specified intervals or on demand, which is a bit frustrating). Overall, this program's strong functionality and design make it a good choice for home and business users.

A Moffsoft FreeCalc 1.2.0.6

Many try to improve on the standard Windows calculator, and Moffsoft FreeCalc does a fairly good job of it. Besides the traditional functions, this calculator offers extras such as SQRT through a bigger, easier interface. Our favorite feature is the "transaction tape," essentially an ongoing record of all calculations performed. You'll never again be at square one after accidentally pressing C--just look at the tape and start from your last calculation. Number crunchers will be sure to appreciate FreeCalc's enhancements to their primary tools.
